Term 3 - The Circulatory System

Crimson, scarlet, burgundy, cherry…Blood flows through our bodies in all its vibrant shades of red.

In this age where childhood obesity is on the rise, it is important that the children understand the role of a healthy heart in maintaining healthy lifestyles. We take year 6 on a scientific journey into the beating heart of the human body.

In this unit the children will Identify and name the main parts of the human circulatory system and describe the functions of the heart, blood vessels and blood. The children will focus on the journey of blood throughout the human body, how it transports gases and the vital nutrients to and from the main organs. In addition, the children will: recognise the impact of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle on the function of the body. The will include, evaluating a range of current healthy snack products and designing and creating their own. Data will be recorded on pulse rate before and after exercise, and pupils will learn how to report and present their findings in a range of scientific contexts.
